Spring Open Day 2025
Hello Gardeners
Spring has arrived in the garden, bringing vibrant flowers and the promise of summer fruit. Along with it comes our Spring Open Day! This newsletter shares details about three events happening this year: the Spring Open Day, our Annual General Meeting, and the Christmas Party. Read on for all the exciting details.
Spring Open Day 12th october 9am to 1pm
Plant Sale
Thanks to the dedicated care of our garden members, we now have an abundance of healthy seedlings and plants ready for their new homes. Our greenhouse and outdoor nursery are brimming with vegetable, herb, and ornamental plants, all set for our Spring plant sale. With the recent warm weather, it's the perfect time to start planting!
Program for the Day
7.45am - Volunteers begin setup
9am- Event opens, including Plant Sale, Bake Sale, Garden Opens, Sausage Sizzle
9am to 1pm - Nature Potion play with Janet
9.30 am to 10.30am - Bukes (ukulele band) entertains
10.30am - Garden Tour with Beau
11.30am to 12.30pm - All things herbs with Sandra from the Herb Society of South Australia
12.30pm - Raffle is drawn
1pm - Close
Raffle
We are hosting a raffle with a fantastic array of prizes generously donated by local businesses and individuals. The funds raised will go towards maintaining and enhancing the garden, ensuring it continues to be a place of growth, learning, and community bonding.
Tickets will be available to purchase at the Open Day. Tickets are $2 each or 3 for $5.
The raffle draw is a highlight of the Spring Open Day, set to take place at 12.30pm, marking a moment of excitement and community celebration. Don't miss out on the chance to be part of this vibrant community event!

Children Activities
We have been very fortunate to have some very special people donate their time and skills to run children's activities on the day.
Nature Potion Play 9am to 12.30pm -Janet has put together a lovely nature-based activity for children of all ages. This has been a very popular activity at our recent open days.
Fairy & Dinosaur gardens, make sure to check out the dinosaur garden and the ever-popular fairy garden.
There will be scavenger hunt cards available in our sensory garden, created by Beau.
Hunt for kindness rocks- created and donated by Lisa
There will also be butterfly and sunflower photo props, chalk drawing and don’t forget to hello to Sunny & Rainy our scarecrows.
Sausage Sizzle
Sausage Sizzle, drinks & vegetarian sausages available
A big thank you to Becks Bakehouse Somerton Park and Brighton Foodland for their support of the BBQ.
Also, a call out to Two Fat Bloke Pizzas for lending us equipment for the BBQ & Bake Sale.
Kombi Crew - Coffee will be available from 9am
Bake sale
Our bake sale is the perfect chance to grab something delicious to enjoy with a coffee while listening to the tunes played by the BUKES. What a wonderful way to support the garden by buying cakes!
To make this year's bake sale a success, we need help from our garden members and community in the following ways:
Donations of baked goods – we're calling on all baking enthusiasts to contribute their homemade treats, both sweet and savoury. Remember to include a list of ingredients so everyone can enjoy safely. Food handling rules prevent us from selling items that contain fresh cream or custard.
Join us at the Spring Open Day and treat yourself to some tasty delights!
Come along to the Open Day and indulge in some delicious treats!
Craft for Sale
Handmade fabric bags- these lovely bags have been made and donated by one of our garden members. They include garden themed tote bags and tea bag holders.
Bee Baths - Filled with pebbles and water they are a great way to make sure your garden has water for bees or any other insects looking for a drink. Perfect for the coming warm weather.
Painted Pots - members have created a cute range of painted pots. There is a mix with and without plants.
Bookmarks - a friend of the garden has created beautiful hand painted bookmarks.

The community garden and Spring Open Day would not be possible without the contributions of all the hard-working garden members. Many have donated time before and on the day.
Annual geneal meeting
Annual General meeting
When: Sunday 30th November 10.30am
Where: North Brighton Community Garden, 61 Bowker St, North Brighton
The Annual General Meeting is an important event where you can hear how the garden has gone over the past year and help us plan for the year to come. The AGM will include a summary of the year's activities through the Chairperson's and Treasurer's reports, the election of the 2025 committee, voting on changes to general membership, and broader consultation with members for ideas on the garden's future.
2026 Committee
We are seeking new committee members and have roles available to match a variety of interests and skills. We encourage all garden members to nominate themselves for the committee. It’s a fantastic opportunity to volunteer in your local community and help shape the future of the garden.
The committee is looking for new members to manage social media, update the website, handle the newsletter, and assist with behind-the-scenes organisation of the garden. Most of these tasks can be done from home, and support will be provided to anyone interested in taking on these roles.

Garden Christmas Party
When: Sunday 30th November, 12 PM
Where: North Brighton Community Garden. 61 Bowker Street, North Brighton
All garden members are invited to our Christmas Party.
All you need to do is bring a plate of food to share, your own drinks. Plus, a picnic plate and cutlery to eat from.
House (Garden) Keeping
Remember: the garden will be busy on Saturday the 11th getting ready for the Open Day on Sunday. The garden front gate will be locked on Saturday afternoon, no one will be able to enter the garden until Sunday morning.
Membership Renewal
Membership renewals are due in January for an annual fee of $15 per household.
Members will enjoy the benefits of garden facilities, learning and free workshops (including discounted prices to public workshops), club organisation and social gatherings, insurance coverage.
Reminder of General Membership Policy: During the membership year, general members are expected to contribute to the garden in a way that is suitable for their abilities.
